Halloween Costumes - Scary, Outlandish and Spectacular

The whole point of Halloween is to wear a splendidly outlandish costume to scare people off, or even better, to scare unearthly beings away. Many centuries ago, when this all began with the Celts, they disguised themselves as ghouls or other ethereal things of the dark, so that they wouldn't be recognized by the dead that roamed the earth for this one night. In simple terms it was something the Celts did to fool the dead and as such it was a defense mechanism. (The best type of defense is attack).

Back to today: Halloween night would not be complete without some spectacularly scary Halloween costume and a very important part of the fun is that the costumes we wear are the scariest, the most original ones we can get. We have inherited some of the customs like dressing up because we enjoy the whole celebration and also, perhaps, maybe, perchance, because at the back of our minds we are still scared of that which we do not know and understand - the ghostly world.

The idea of dressing up is something that gets everyone stirred up, whether it is the kids, the teenagers, parents or grandparents. Some people do declare that they don't like dressing up, and they have every right to this, but if the mood is right, everyone will dress up - and the mood is generally right on Halloween.

To blend a costume with a mask, or a bloodied sword, or some creative make-up is part of the whole thing. Halloween wouldn't be complete without the costumes. Dressing up as a werewolf, a ghost, a ghoul, a pirate, a trekky - or whatever, is part of the Halloween essence. And this means not just being dressed up but also the planning, the organizing and the actual dressing up. This an integral part of the whole build up, so when everything is finally ready, you are in the perfect mood for a Halloween night.

You could say that costumes are Halloween and so you have many, many alternatives. Many people go for the homemade. In fact as a child of the sixties, we only rarely used a ready made suit. Some people are really creative making costumes, both with the clothes and the make up.

Then you have the ready made costumes which come in very good quality are easily available on line, with an enormous variety of costumes -if you can think of it, you will be sure to find it.

The important thing is to prepare for Halloween so that the anticipation and mood, especially for kids, is so great that it becomes a memorable occasion to share and talk about in years to come and this does mean wearing a great, scary, original and fantastic costume.
